NATALIE AND KAYLEN FOR MOET!
Featured Model of the Week: Luiza
How did you meet Wunder?
-A fellow model, Maria, introduced me to Wunder – she has great things to say about you guys, so I thought I’d give it a try.
What made you want to become a model?
-The desire to do something artistic and become a part of the fashion industry. I’ve always been interested in photography, clothing, fashion, and style, and modeling incorporates all of those things.
How long have u been modeling?
-About 2 years – I started when I was 18 and now I’m almost 20.
What do you enjoy about modeling?
-I really enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. Every person that participates in a shoot is an integral part of the shoot, and I love hearing each person’s story. You’d be surprised how many people had soul-sucking corperate jobs, and then one day just decided to quit and follow their dream of being a make up artist or stylists or something else. Hats off to them!
What do you like about Wunder?
-It seems like family! Everyone is super chill yet very professional. I never feel pressured to accept jobs or go to castings, and there’s no fuss – emails are quick and simple.
What do you think makes a good model?
-Versatility! I can shoot high fashion or commercial, and everything in between. It’s important to be able to fit into any role a client gives you. The more looks you can portray, the more jobs you will receive.
What advice do you have for other aspiring models?
-Don’t do anything that makes you uncomfortable, and make sure you stay true to your character. I’ve run into a lot of models that become jaded by the idea of making money from their appearance, and I find that very unattractive and hard to deal with.
Ambitions/goals for your model career?
-I’d like to travel as much as possible, and do everything from commercials, to short films, to campaigns and catalogs. Variety is key.
What is your dream job?
-Working for a high fashion designer like Alexander McQueen or Marchesa. I have only the highest respect for people with that much creativity and innovation.
Favorite modeling job?
-Working for American Eagle Outfitters was amazing! The crew was fantastic, the location (San Fran) was gorgeous, and the photos turned out amazing. Plus it was nice seeing my face in every American Eagle store, plus on their billboards in New York :)
Funniest thing that has happened at a job?
-I’ve shot with a few photographers that I’ve really connected with, and it’s always hilarious when the photographer says something funny and I laugh so much I can’t focus on modeling!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
-I would like to be halfway through earning my master’s in marketing, hopefully living in a European city (like Paris), and modeling on the side.
How do you prepare for a modeling shoot?
-I make sure to exfoliate my skin, put a nourishing mask in my hair, moisturize my legs, and paint my nails. Clients pay big bucks for an agency model because they’re expecting a higher-end experience, and I wouldn’t want to embarrass my agency or myself by showing up with chipped nail polish or frizzy hair.
What are some things you like about the fashion industry?
-I like the amount of creativity that is tolerated in fashion. Basically, there is no other industry that would let you photograph a girl wrapped in giant silk sheets splashed with paint and call it work (I’ve done that, it was fun!).
How has modeling changed other aspects of your life?
-I’ve become a lot more open-minded about the concept of beauty. Before I become a model, I lived in a fairly small town and was exposed to what I call “cookie-cutter” beauty. After becoming a model and being given the chance to travel and meet such a large volume of people and work with a lot of different models, I’ve expanded my horizons and come to think that different/strange/unique is beautiful.
Who are some of your favorite models and designers, and why?
-One of my favorite models is Sasha Luss. She’s Russian (like I am), beautiful, and seems very sweet and unpretentious. What’s not to love?!
-One of my favorite designers is my good friend Ben Massing (his label is Benjamin Jay). He’s a guy that started with literally nothing, and built his business from the ground up. His company has grown an immeasurable amount – he went from selling t-shirts online to filling huge orders for Neimann Marcus. I respect that kind of hustle and dedication.
Anything else you would like to tell the world?
-Just a few random things about me – I’m vegan, I was born in Moscow, Russia (still speak Russian), and I love my job with all my heart and soul :)
